CIS Career Pathways

THE COMPUTER & INFORMATION SYSTEMS (CIS) degree program is designed around a core curriculum and three distinct options. The program’s core provides a strong introduction to computer concepts, software applications, operating systems, networking, microcomputer servicing, Internet, math, human relations and writing. To gain practical work-related experience, students also complete 99 hours of cooperative work experience in a related setting.

CIS students may elect to complete an option in one or more of three emphasis areas: Networking, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), and Computer Support Services. Students can also earn a general Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems.

The design of many of the advanced-level applications, network-ing and CAD courses in the CIS department prepare students for industry certification. Students are able to test for certification and assess their competence in their given emphasis.

CAREER PATHWAYS
Career pathways is a system developed to help guide students toward specific professional goals by providing a defined list of courses offering expert training. The various courses help lead students to completion certificates and/or degrees that identify the student as being qualified to work in a particular field.

WHO CAN USE CAREER PATHWAYS?
Career pathways can be used by students recently graduated from high school OR by adults who have been out of school for quite some time. In either case, career pathway students need to have the desire to help themselves and the desire to explore the possibilities of a new profession.
